Designers fitted the Tahoe LT with monotube shocks (these shocks come from years of race car testing) and specially tuned springs. Monotube shock absorbers or struts are unique in that the design allows them to operate cooler, are high pressure, from around 200 psi, to as high as 360 psi, and are built so that the hydraulic oil and Nitrogen gas are in different chambers that are separated by a floating piston minimizing bubbles. This modern type of shock may have a stiff specific valving, and are at the high end cost-wise to manufacture. What the Tahoe LT Z71 customer gets for this added cost is a shock that can battle tougher terrain and this shock allows for higher dampening.

Another integral part of the Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package is a skid plate package that has an aluminum underbody put there to prevent rocks, sticks, and whatever is encountered from damaging the vehicle. Mudboggers will be happy to know the off-road Tahoe offers the ‘GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential’.

The classy exterior of Tahoe is given an edge with the Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package. The tougher version is fitted with integrated wheel flairs, and 18 inch aluminum wheels.
